To make your wedding a truly memorable event it helps to have a theme. A theme doesn’t have to be outlandish to be memorable, doesn’t have to be Disneyland or jumping out of an airplane: it should just be a coordinated look or feel throughout the invitations, placecards, centerpieces (if possible), colors, etc. Themes can be elegant, whimsical, casual, etc. and should always reflect the personalities of the bride and groom.
Here are some possibilities for a theme wedding, if you have tips, suggestions or stories to share about your theme wedding we would love to hear from you!
ECO-FRIENDLY THEME
Choosing a venue helps set the stage and theme for any event and is usually your first major decision. Traditional venues, such as hotel ballrooms and fancy resorts, tend to use lots of electricity, water and other typically not-so-earth-friendly products. Get married in the beautiful outdoors! Print invitations on recycled paper or give up printed pieces altogether and get the message out digitally. For the brides’ bouquet choose organic and locally grown flowers, for the tables try decorating with potted herbs that guests can take home and enjoy. Skip the small plastic favors for your guests and give them something edible or reusable so it doesn’t end up in a landfill. For your bridal dress shop for vintage – not only is it tres chic but it’s also earth friendly!
MASQUERADE BALL
For an elegant and enchanting wedding with a whimsical touch you may want to try a Masquerade theme. Require guests to come in black tie dress and set out masks at each place setting for guests to wear during the reception. Gold, cream and black would be excellent colors to complement, but not compete with the masks. Tall gold or silver candlesticks would add a romantic touch. Choose decor with lots of detail – feathers, beading and ribbons (just keep them away from the candles!)
Congratulations to Sarah who has chosen a bird theme for her late Fall wedding to Nathan at Eden Try. How appropriate as Eden Try prides itself on its bird sanctuary. Sarah’s vision is birds and bird cages (sans doors) as the centerpieces and occasional decor and she’s just finished custom designing the invitations! Sarah has chosen very classic and old fashioned colors of Black, Cream, Champagne, Gold and and Very Vintage Peachy Pink to pair with her vintage dress. She also considered a Disney princess theme and we see that as an easy fit. Nathan is a recognized illustrator and you can view some of his paintings in downtown Fredericksburg. Ask for details. Congratulations also to Sarah and Nathan on the “furry” new addition to the family: “Rollo”, a Chocolate Brown and Caramel color (like the candy) lab mix.
Laura and Brian decided they wanted a relaxed atmosphere for their event and Eden Try is happy to accommodate their request. The beauty of an outdoor wedding is “you can make it your own” which is what the family liked about it. Men will be in khakis and white shirts, island style. Catering will be casual barbeque or picnic style. Laura said “We want our family and friends to be free of the structure of an indoor/formal event: we really just want a simple ceremony so we can spend the rest of the day celebrating and visiting with family and freinds.” Brian seemed to particularly appreciate the natural beauty and peacefulness surrounding the amphitheature and bridal cottage. When asked how they met, they both smiled. We love it!

This was a wedding to remember for many reasons. This family truly impressed us with their coordinated teamwork in pulling it all together in a short amount of time… and they did it all themselves! The colors and decorations were one of the most strikingly beautiful we had seen at Eden Try. No detail was overlooked, even with the “restraints” we know they were working with. Mom and Dad, you are to be commended for creating this beautiful vision and giving your daughter and new son in law (so nice!) this beautiful day to remember. Congratulations, Lisa and Dominic.
